Wow... Most people didn't know what was going on when I sent out my invites for the show last night. The Streaming Cafe is a very cutting edge venue that gives indepedent, unsigned, relatively unknown artists a platform to perform for a global audience in a live streaming environment. It is another entrepreneurial endeavour of Kelowna's new elite artists group who have been scheming up innovative ways to promote the artists moving throughout our community in super high tech mediums. Totally nerve racking, performing for a global audience. We had 80 viewers logged onto the site (streamingcafe.net) at 8pm, but it felt like I was playing for anybody and everybody. There were about 50-60 people tucked into the tiny space on Leon (formerly Robbie Brown's Guitartown), but there was something compelling about the enormity of performing live, on the web that made me feel like I was performing before millions. And when I finally started to relax into the medium, and appreciate the quality of the video stream (3 super high-def cameras on remote pivots, feeding video and audio stream directly to a mobile mixer parked out back of the cafe, in which a producer cuts and edits the stream together in real time for public viewing), the organic nature of the room, and the electric energy of the venue's potential, I was overwhelmed by the vast potential of the cafe and what it could mean not only to me and my near future as a musician, but what it can and will do for the musical community globally. Not only was the two set (approx. 90 min total) show inspiring for me in a unique way, but I left feeling so encouraged by the support of everybody involved and also the vast toolbox of resources the evening blessed me with. After some editing, the streamingcafe team will have segments and/or full-content video that I can use as my own personal press kit, and demo of me as an artist. The quality is top of the line. The seamlessness is incredible. Nothing like it. Anyway, if you're an artist that could use this environment and vision as a springboard for your burgeoning career, I highly recommend that you access the site and get in contact with Martin or Justin, who are eager to serve this community and make it happen for unknown artists. They are -- in fact -- MORE interested in unknown people than anyone else. It's a really cool experience. I LOVED IT!!
